What is the Best Type of Liposuction?
Because each person has different goals, the best type of liposuction will depend on several factors. At Premier Vein & Body By Schwartz, we consider the areas you want to treat, the amount of fat we will remove, and which treatment fits your needs before Dr. Schwartz will recommend the energy modality that he will use.
Tumescent Liposuction
Triple board-certified surgeon, Dr. Craig Schwartz, performs what is referred to as Tumescent Liposuction, which offers significant benefits over traditional liposuction, which requires general anesthesia. Performed in the office setting instead of a hospital or surgery center, this technique fills the area between the skin and fat with a layer of saline and local anesthetic, separating the fat cells and allowing him to use a much smaller micro-cannula to remove them. The tumescent fluid protects you from bruising and bleeding, providing patients with a faster recovery.
Vibration-Assisted Liposuction
Also referred to as “Tickle Liposuction,” vibration-assisted liposuction uses gentle, heat-free vibrations that work at the right frequency to break apart fat cells without harming the skin or other tissues. Tickle liposuction has two significant advantages: it can help tighten the skin after treatment, and it works for people with a higher BMI than other liposuction methods. Remember that even this type of liposuction is not intended for weight loss and serves as a body contouring technique.
Laser Liposuction
Laser liposuction with the ProLipo system makes an excellent choice for smaller, more targeted areas. Dr. Schwartz may use laser liposuction to sculpt and shape smaller areas and add sculpting and contouring to regions like the arms or ab muscles. This type of liposuction uses a thin laser fiber that uses heat to liquefy fat. Suctioning out this liquified fat is much less invasive than breaking up and removing fat cells.
VASER Liposuction
Dr. Schwartz often prefers this type of liposuction for small, challenging areas like under the chin and around the neck. VASER liposuction uses ultrasound energy that causes fat cells to break down without tissue injury. Removing these liquified fat cells causes minimal trauma, making VASER an excellent option, especially for smaller, more targeted areas.
Where Can I Have Liposuction?
You can have liposuction almost anywhere on your body where you have excess fat or want to improve your contours. Areas appropriate for liposuction, especially with minimally invasive techniques, include:
- Abdomen
- Flanks
- Upper arms
- Inner and outer thighs
- Buttocks
- Chin and neck
- Cheeks
- Calves
- Knees
- Ankles
- Bra rolls
- Love handles
If you have unwanted fat anywhere on your body, schedule a consultation to determine if liposuction can help you get rid of it. Liposuction, especially techniques designed to target smaller areas, works almost anywhere.
What is Recovery Like From Liposuction?
Recovery from traditional liposuction could take several weeks. With minimally invasive methods, most people can return to work and most of their regular activities within a few days. Many of our liposuction patients have the minimally-invasive surgery on a Friday and return to work on Monday. Our tumescent liposuction procedures cause almost no bruising or bleeding, minimizing your recovery time and returning you back to your routine in just days instead of weeks.
