What are the Differences Between CoolSculpting® and truSculpt® iD for Body Contouring?

If pockets of stubborn fat are keeping you from reaching your aesthetic goals, non-surgical body contouring may be the right solution for you. These treatments remove targeted areas of unwanted fat without incisions or recovery time, shaping and sculpting your desired figure. CoolSculpting® and truSculpt® iD can remove this challenging fat, but they have several differences.

What is Non-Surgical Body Contouring?

All human bodies have preferred areas for storing fat, and these areas can hold you back from seeing the full results of your efforts. Non-surgical body contouring is a fat removal treatment that breaks up unwanted fat cells without harming the skin. These treatments use different types of energy to damage fat cells, but in general, they are pain-free and require minimal downtime.

Non-surgical body contouring is often used on areas such as the abdomen, flanks, and thighs. However, some systems can also be used to treat smaller areas, such as under the chin. Your Premier Vein & Body By Schwartz team specializes in body contouring options, letting them choose the best one for your needs, medical history, and other factors.

What are the Differences Between CoolSculpting® and truSculpt® iD for Body Contouring?

Non-surgical body sculpting continues to grow in popularity as more people discover the benefits of these treatments. While both CoolSculpting® and truSculpt® iD provide excellent fat removal, Dr. Schwartz and his team recommend truSculpt® iD for more people.

How They Work

CoolSculpting® works using cryolipolysis. This technology works because fat cells are affected by cold temperatures that do not harm the skin. This treatment lowers the temperature until fat cells crystallize, breaking their membranes and damaging them. On the other hand, trusSculpt® iD uses radiofrequency (RF) energy that transfers heat to fat cells without affecting your skin. This RF energy has added benefits not offered by CoolSculpting®.

What Treatment is Like

Both treatments are non-invasive, so you will not have any incisions or anesthesia. CoolSculpting® often feels extremely cold when treatment begins, although the area becomes numb quickly, and most people find it comfortable overall. People often report that truSculpt® iD feels like a hot stone massage and feel no discomfort. While each person will experience treatment differently, some do not like the sensation of numbing from CoolSculpting®.

How Many Treatments You Will Need

Both treatments are highly effective, removing about 25% of body fat from treated areas. Most patients require a series of treatments to see the desired results.  We will discuss this during your initial consultation.

How Much Downtime is Required

These non-invasive treatments require little to no downtime. You can return to your usual activities immediately after treatment with either method. Your skin may look flushed for a few hours after truSculpt® iD, but these effects fade quickly. CoolSculpting® also causes redness and swelling that can last a few days. However, it can also result in numbness, tingling, and the risk of more serious side effects that have been covered in the news. Overall, most people recover from both treatments quickly and without downtime.

How Long It Takes to See Results

Both truSculpt® iD and CoolSculpting® rely on your body’s lymphatic system to remove the damaged fat cells from treated areas. You may start to see changes after a few weeks, but full results take about three months to develop after either method. Once removed, these fat cells will not grow back, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle will keep your figure looking sculpted.

Who Makes a Good Candidate

Because these treatments are non-invasive, most people are good candidates for both options. Some people may have a medical or other health condition that makes one treatment more suitable than another. Most healthy adults can have truSculpt® iD or CoolSculpting® safely. However, only a consultation can determine whether you are a candidate. All candidates should have reasonable expectations and understand their risks and benefits.

Should I Have CoolSculpting® or truSculpt® iD?

While both treatments are effective, Dr. Schwartz and his team recommend truSculpt® iD more often. Its RF energy has the added benefit of tightening the skin, providing more noticeable body sculpting results. It also has no risk of PAH (paradoxical adipose hyperplasia), an uncommon complication of CoolSculpting®.

Factors that determine which treatment is right for you include your goals, medical history, and many others. Dr. Schwartz and his team will assess your needs and decide which method will provide you with the best experience and maximize your results. Individuals who can benefit from skin tightening in the treatment area will often find this aspect of truSculpt® iD helpful.
