Laser Spider Vein Removal

Are Spider Veins Limiting Your Quality of Life?

Spider veins can be unsightly and embarrassing, making you want to cover up even in the summertime. If you’re tired of spider veins dictating your quality of life, let Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz in Kansas City help with laser vein removal, where Dr. Craig Schwartz will treat your spider veins and address any potential underlying causes.

How Does Laser Spider Vein Removal Work?

Spider veins are most thoroughly cleared with a combination of sclerotherapy injections and superficial or topical laser treatment. Be cautious of any physician who claims that they can erase all of your spider veins via laser treatment only!

A topical laser that eliminates spider veins on the surface of the skin will be frequently used to treat the tiniest of spider veins that are too small for sclerotherapy injections.

Dornier Flexipulse™

Dr. Schwartz uses the Dornier MedTech Medilas D Flexipulse(™) laser to treat superficial spider veins that are too tiny to be treated with sclerotherapy injections. By aiming the laser at the spider veins, the energy is absorbed by the blood in the vein, effectively burning the vein shut from the inside, resulting in the elimination of the spider veins.  This may take more than one treatment, depending on the size of the spider veins and how many of them you have. This 940 nm wavelength diode laser ensures precise targeting of spider veins and a safer and more effective laser vein treatment.

VeinGogh

Dr. Schwartz prefers the Vein Gogh thermolysis system for treating the smallest of spider veins on the face or body. Effective but non-invasive, this treatment method can erase spider veins with little to no discomfort. Most spider veins on the face are too small for sclerotherapy, while the 940 nm wavelength laser works better on larger veins. VeinGogh’s thermocoagulation heat provides a gentle yet effective treatment for those tiny, pesky spider veins on the nose and face. Dr. Schwartz uses super-fine insulated needles to deliver just enough heat to force the vein walls to collapse. Because the needles are insulated, the surrounding skin is not affected.

Why Do People Develop Spider Veins?

The tendency to develop spider veins often has hereditary or genetic causes, and you will have a greater chance of developing them if other people in your immediate family have them. Some medical conditions can also cause spider veins. Pregnancy, with its hormonal and blood volume changes, can trigger spider vein development, and so can standing or sitting for long periods. Tiny facial or nose veins can also be the result of sun damage.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Vein Removal?

Most patients are good candidates for topical spider vein laser treatment, which may be best used with sclerotherapy, still considered the gold standard in spider vein care. A thorough consultation with Dr. Schwartz will best guide you on the therapy that’s right for you. Dr. Schwartz uses a number of assessment tools including venous duplex ultrasound, a test that lets him visualize your veins as well as the speed and direction of blood flow. The majority of people make good candidates for laser spider vein removal.

How Long Does Laser Vein Removal Take?

Topical laser treatment for spider veins typically takes less than 20 minutes and is most often used to “clear up” the tiniest of spider veins that sclerotherapy injections could not clear. Your treatment time will depend on the number of spider veins being treated. Your first session will take a bit longer as Dr. Schwartz will explain your procedure in detail and give you time to ask questions before he begins.

What Results Will I See With Laser Spider Vein Removal?*

It’s important to note that spider vein treatment is a process that generally requires multiple sessions over several months for full clearance and that they tend to look worse before they look better. After your treatment process, your spider veins will have diminished in size and appearance or completely disappeared. While treatment may take time, most people find that the end results are more than worth it.

Is There Any Downtime with Laser Spider Vein Removal?*

Patients may resume normal daily activity immediately after topical laser treatment. We ask that you avoid strenuous physical exercise for 24 hours. Follow any other instructions given to you by Dr. Schwartz to ensure the best results. While past vein stripping procedures involved significant recovery time, Dr. Schwartz helped pioneer the in-office, non-invasive treatment methods later adopted by many other vein doctors.
