How Long is Recovery From Liposuction?

Traditional methods of liposuction cause tissue trauma that can require weeks of downtime. Dr. Craig Schwartz prefers minimally invasive liposuction. These techniques use energy to break down fat cells, making them easy to remove. This protects the surrounding tissues from damage for a fast recovery time.

What is Liposuction?

In the past, liposuction meant inserting a cannula, manually breaking up the fat, and then removing it with powerful suction. As liposuction technology has improved, options like laser liposuction have become available. Using gentle laser energy to break down fat cells for easy removal prevents trauma to the surrounding tissues. Because it uses a small laser fiber, laser liposuction can work in smaller and more delicate areas than standard liposuction methods. Dr. Schwartz favors this method because laser energy produces more skin tightening than other techniques.

How Does Liposuction Work?

Liposuction is an effective tool for removing stubborn fat, especially for people already close to their target weight and who want to focus on some challenging regions. Dr. Schwartz prefers to use vibration-assisted liposuction (link to Tickle Lipo page). This technique uses vibrations instead of heat and can remove more extensive areas of fat. Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (link to Vaser page) uses ultrasound energy to liquefy fat cells for easy removal. This method can target especially difficult areas like the chin, neck, and knees.

How Long is Recovery From Liposuction?

Recovery from traditional liposuction methods could take several weeks. Most patients would experience significant bruising and soft tissue trauma that led to an uncomfortable and long recovery period. The outpatient liposuction procedures that use micro-cannulas and advanced energy and techniques offered at Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz provide a much shorter recovery time.  Whether Dr. Schwartz recommends Tickle Lipo, Vaser Lipo or Laser Lipo, most patients can return to work within a few days. Bruising and swelling are minimal because the fat has been broken down and gently removed. In fact, many patients have the procedure on a Friday and return to work on Monday.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

The cost of outpatient liposuction depends on several factors, including the size of the area to be treated. Liposuction costs vary greatly depending on the volume of fat to be removed. For example, smaller areas may average around $3500, but larger volumes of fat will average several thousand dollars.  Outpatient liposuction typically costs less than traditional liposuction because it is performed using local tumescent anesthesia, rather than under general anesthesia in a surgery center.  Dr. Schwartz will review your options and design a personalized treatment plan at the time of your consultation that will address your goals and concerns. Financing plans are available to make liposuction more affordable.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

Minimally-invasive liposuction techniques make this procedure safe for almost everyone, though patients with the most noticeable cosmetic results are typically at or near their target weight. However, we certainly address bothersome areas on patients from a wide range of weight/BMI. The eligibility criteria vary by type of liposuction, so ask during your consultation which method may work best for you.
