What Types of Liposuction Exist?

If you’re bothered by stubborn fat bulges that are resistant to diet and exercise, liposuction may be a great option. Essentially, liposuction is a safe, clinically proven body contouring treatment that can help you achieve a slimmer, more attractive physique.

Laser Lipo

Laser liposuction was one of the very first types of minimally-invasive outpatient liposuction procedures that provided patients with a viable alternative to traditional liposuction. Using local tumescent anesthesia, it revolutionized the industry by providing patients with a faster recovery, and less pain, swelling and bruising than traditional liposuction. We use the FDA-approved Pro Lipo laser lipo system, which uses thermal energy to liquefy fat cells, which are then gently suctioned away. This type of liposuction is most ideal for smaller pockets of fat, and is often used for precision body contouring, such as on the abs and arms of body builders.

Vaser Lipo

VASER liposuction uses high-pitched sound waves to liquefy fat cells, thus “melting” them into a liquid state, making their removal much easier and the procedure much simpler. It is a perfect form of liposuction for hard-to-treat areas such as the chin, neck, cheeks, knees, calves and ankles, as well as denser pockets or larger volumes of fat. While traditional liposuction uses a suction cannula and manual movement to break down the fat tissue, VASER uses ultrasound high frequency energy to do so. It’s important to note that while VASER can allow you to slim and shape your body, it’s not a solution to bulk fat reduction.

Tickle Lipo

Tickle Lipo, also known as Vibration-Assisted Liposuction, provides for the gentlest liposuction technique with infrasonic vibration-assisted energy (rather than heat-based energy, such as laser or ultrasound) to break down fat while keeping the connective tissue intact. Dr. Schwartz then gently drains the liquefied fat. Because this procedure also assists in the production of some collagen, Tickle Lipo also provides for some skin tightening in addition to fat removal with noticeable results for up to six months post-treatment. With Tickle Lipo, patients that did not previously qualify for outpatient lipo procedures (those within thirty pounds of ideal body weight) now can have larger volumes of fat evacuated.* The tiny cannula also allows for more precise body sculpting in smaller, more difficult areas, such as the knees, male breasts, etc.

Liposuction is Not a Weight Loss Treatment

While liposuction can help you achieve a more toned, athletic look, it’s essential to realize that it’s a body contouring treatment rather than a weight loss treatment. Therefore, if your primary goal is only to shed unwanted pounds, liposuction is probably not a good fit. Additionally, you should only undergo liposuction if you plan to follow a healthy lifestyle after treatment.
