No More Vein Stripping! How to Remove Your Varicose Veins Without a Hospital Stay, General Anesthetic or Long Recovery Period!

If you’ve been researching varicose vein treatments or have heard that you need to undergo a procedure called “vein stripping”, it’s important to remember that saying: “Don’t believe everything you hear!”

What Is Vein Stripping?

You might be surprised to learn that many vein doctors and hospitals today still practice vein stripping! If you’re visiting a vein specialist and they mention vein stripping as a treatment option for you, this is a pretty clear indicator their treatment methods are outdated and this should raise a red flag!

Vein stripping is an extremely outdated procedure that is essentially major surgery, requiring not only a hospital stay but also undergoing general or regional anesthesia. Recovery time for vein stripping can mean weeks or sometimes months off your feet, instead of just a few days, which is the typical recovery time for our state-of-the-art varicose vein treatments that require no major surgery and can be completed in the comfort of our beautiful office.

So What’s the Best, Most Effective Way to Treat Varicose Veins in 2014?

In my vein practice, the most common and most effective varicose vein treatment is usually a “laser ablation” followed by a “phlebectomy”. What do these mean and what kind of recovery time is involved?

Laser ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that collapses and seals the underlying, abnormal vein that causes the varicose veins to shut with a laser. The laser is inserted in the leg via a tiny needlestick, so the incision is nearly invisible. Following the laser ablation, the phlebectomy or “microincisional resection” takes place, which is where the bulging, dilated superficial veins are removed by a special device called a “vein hook” via a few very small incisions. The blood is then redirected to a normal functioning vein.

What’s great news to patients about this procedure is that it may take only about 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how many, if any, veins are being removed. And, the recovery time is much faster than the old-fashioned “vein stripping” procedure, which could mean weeks or months off your feet to recover. Our varicose vein patients are usually back to their usual activities within 2 days at the most — it’s very typical for our patients to have the procedure done on Friday and return to work on Monday.

Remember, if you have varicose veins, you are not alone! Millions of Americans suffer from them and from the leg pain and heaviness that’s often associated with them. It’s important to understand that our state-of-the-art treatments make removing your varicose veins easier and quicker than ever. Treatment is also covered by most insurance plans.
