How Much is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Your skin protects you from the environment, but it accumulates damage over time. While sun damage and other exposures affect your skin from the outside, aging causes it to produce less collagen, leading to a loss of strength and firmness. Laser skin resurfacing reverses these signs of aging and environmental damage, giving you smoother skin with a youthful glow.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a term that describes any treatment using a laser to trigger skin rejuvenation. Laser skin resurfacing uses laser energy to trigger skin renewal by stimulating new collagen formation and bringing healthy new skin cells to the surface.

Laser skin resurfacing treatments can be ablative (removing the outer layers of skin) or non-ablative (leaving the outer layers intact). They can also be described as fractional, which means the laser treats controlled areas of the skin surrounded by unaffected tissue. The untreated skin responds by stimulating healing and growth processes.

How Much is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

The cost of laser skin resurfacing treatments will vary widely depending on many factors. There are many types of laser rejuvenation, and each requires a different number of treatment sessions. Your laser skin resurfacing cost will depend on the following:

  • Your provider’s skill and experience
  • The type of laser skin resurfacing
  • The number of treatments needed
  • Your skin type and concerns
  • Other fees and expenses

The average cost of one skin resurfacing treatment is about $1,500. However, many types require more than one session. More intensive lasers may work in a single session but will typically cost more. Our practice has a wide range of skin resurfacing treatments, including the most aggressive CO2 laser skin resurfacing to the no-downtime “lunch facial” using the PicoSure machine. Dr. Craig Schwartz and his team at Premier Vein & Body will determine the best treatment based on your goals and availability for downtime.

We recommend a consultation so your expert aesthetician can plan your treatment and provide you with an accurate estimate. Treatment costs may vary if you need more sessions than expected or change your treatment goals.

Types of Laser Skin Resurfacing

There are many types of lasers available that can perform skin rejuvenation. We offer several of the most advanced laser systems available to help you achieve your goals, regardless of the type or severity of your skin concerns.

MicroLaserPeel®

This customizable laser peel works at a precise depth to rejuvenate your skin with less downtime than other ablative lasers. It can treat many skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and textural issues, with all the power of an ablative laser but less downtime. Typically, just a single laser peel is needed, but it includes the most downtime.

Picosure Focus

This system uses extremely rapid pressure pulses that target multiple layers of skin without causing injury or heating the tissue. It improves your skin’s texture and tone for a brighter, more youthful appearance and triggers collagen production to improve skin laxity. These “lunchtime laser facials” are sold in a package of three.

Venus Viva™

This advanced treatment creates tiny channels of controlled micro-damage that trigger powerful skin renewal. Similar to but more powerful than microneedling, it strongly stimulates collagen formation and brings new skin cells to the surface for a smoother, more even appearance. Just as with the PicoSure Focus, these treatments are sold in a package and require multiple treatments for noticeable results.

Other Types of Skin Resurfacing

While these types of skin resurfacing do not use laser energy, they offer powerful skin rejuvenation treatments that make an excellent choice for many people.  As an added benefit, because they do not use laser energy, they can be used on ALL skin types and colors!

Opus Plasma™

This treatment uses radiofrequency and plasma energy instead of laser energy.  As a fractional treatment, it creates areas of precisely controlled damage that stimulate cellular renewal. These treatments are sold in a package of three, and are also great to use on the neck, chest and stomach.

Tixel®

This unique treatment uses tiny titanium pyramids that make contact with the skin for a fraction of a second, creating areas of heat that stimulate skin rejuvenation. It can also be used in areas such as right up to the mouth and right up to the eyes – including the eyelids, offering a “non-surgical blepharoplasty”.

What is Recovery Like After Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Recovery from laser skin resurfacing varies depending on the depth and intensity of the treatment. Some lasers require little to no downtime, while others may result in a few days of redness and sensitivity. The MicroLaserPeel will involve up to two weeks of peeling and redness. The most intensive settings may result in several days of redness and peeling. Your laser expert will provide aftercare instructions specific to your treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing provides excellent results for most people but is not recommended for everyone or for all areas. With laser and non-laser options such as plasma available, any skin type or tone can benefit from treatment. Good candidates want to improve the condition and appearance of their skin with a customized treatment plan that addresses their needs.

You should not have these treatments on injured or irritated skin, and people with certain medical conditions may not be good candidates. Only a consultation can determine which treatment will help you achieve your goals while fitting your lifestyle.
