Varicose Veins are superficial veins that have lost their ability to appropriately carry blood up and out of the leg, thus allowing the blood to flow backward toward the feet. Also known as venous insufficiency or venous reflux, varicose veins are a result of non-functioning valves inside the veins. Once a vein has become varicose, it won’t go back to normal and should be treated. Varicose veins are usually progressive, meaning that in most cases, they get worse over time if left untreated.
Symptoms of Varicose Veins
Spider Veins from high pressure in the venous system, which, in turn, forces the thin-walled veins to expand. These engorged capillaries then expand to several times their normal size, causing spider veins.

Spider veins are easily treated with a combination of superficial laser and sclerotherapy, a procedure involving an injection of a special highly concentrated chemical solution designed to eliminate the spider veins completely. Most patients require a series of three to five treatment sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. Since spider veins are largely a cosmetic issue, and not a medical one, most insurance will not cover their treatment.
