It takes a lot of dedication to stick to a good diet and exercise routine every day in order to live a healthy life. Although it’s challenging to so many, there are adults whose commitment to eating clean and exercising regularly is unwavering and impressive. But even with this strong commitment, it can be frustrating for these individuals to deal with stubborn fat deposits that do not go away, no matter how well they eat or how hard they exercise. In this situation, liposuction is a very good solution to remove small pockets of fat in the abdomen, love handles, thighs, and much more.
Who Are Good Liposuction Candidates?
Liposuction is designed to remove localized patches of fat in very specific areas. It is not a solution for all over body fat removal, nor is it designed to help a patient “lose weight.” And it does not remove cellulite – only fat – although there are other medical treatments that reduce cellulite. A liposuction candidate should be of average weight and at, or slightly over, their ideal BMI, with firm, elastic skin. Their overall health should be good, and age is not a huge factor, as long as there is still some elasticity to the skin.
How Does Liposuction Work?
Minimally-invasive Precision Liposuction that is performed in the comfort and convenience of our Leawood, KS medical practice is a fairly simple procedure. Unlike liposuction patients of yester-year, modern-day tumescent liposuction is performed right in the physician’s office, using only local anesthesia. A large volume of tumescent liquid (a saline solution mixed with anesthetics) is injected into the body area being treated. The area to be treated becomes engorged with fluid (swollen), which creates more room between the skin and the subcutaneous tissue, helping to separate the fat cells, allowing the cannula to move more easily through the fat.
Is Liposuction Safe?
Since its inception over 10 years ago, tumescent liposuction has established an excellent safety profile. Tumescent liposuction has allowed liposuction to become the safe and reliable treatment that it now is, and provided a huge leap forward in the cosmetic surgery industry. Over the last 10 years, the industry has exploded with a variety of brand names and energy sources used to help break up the fat when performing tumescent liposuction, and at Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz, Dr. Craig Schwartz offers several different types of liposuction, including Laser Lipo, Vibration-Assisted Lipo (Tickle Lipo), and Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (Vaser Lipo). He will discuss which energy source is best for your body type and fat reduction goals during your complimentary liposuction consult.
How Long Does It Take to See Final Liposuction Results?
Unlike non-invasive body contouring procedures, such as CoolSculpting and SculpSure which take 8-12 weeks, and sometimes multiple treatments, for noticeable results, minimally-invasive liposuction can quickly produce noticeable results. However, over the next day or two the treated area becomes very swollen, and it can take several months for swelling to completely diminish. Approximately 80% of liposuction patients’ swelling, however, will subside in the first month, but the results will continue to look better throughout the next few months. And we can, generally, remove the same amount of fat in just one liposuction procedure that would take 2-3 non-invasive body contouring treatments.
Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is an excellent tool for individuals who are searching for one more way to improve the way they look. It does not replace the need for a healthy diet and exercise program, but it can help to remove excess fat from “problem areas.” To get all the details about this procedure, including whether or not it’s the right fit for your fat reduction goals, schedule a free liposuction consult at Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz in Leawood, KS.
