What You Need to Know About Laser Tattoo Removal

Although tattoos are meant to be permanent and usually seem like a great idea at the time, many people eventually choose laser tattoo removal for many reasons, including a new job, a new partner or a new “you”!  And some tattoo enthusiasts simply desire to fade an existing tattoo so that a tattoo artist can create a new one over it.  No matter the reason(s), Premier Vein and Body by Schwartz can effectively remove any or all of your unwanted tattoos using the PicoSure® laser tattoo removal system with PressureWave™ technology.

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Laser tattoo removal uses bursts of laser energy in different wavelengths to break apart tattoo ink particles. The body will remove these particles over time, fading the colors from the tattoo. Over a series of treatments, the tattoo will continue to fade and become less and less visible. Laser tattoo removal can help undo what many people consider a permanent mistake.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

The PicoSure® laser emits extremely rapid bursts of energy that travel into the skin without harming your skin cells. When this energy contacts a particle of pigment, the energy causes the particle to break apart. Because the skin does not absorb this energy, it only causes damage to ink pigment and none to the skin. Because this laser disrupts the pigment particles without using heat, the skin feels no heat or discomfort.

Unlike some other lasers, the PicoSure® system breaks down even difficult pigments, including bright colors and newer, deeper tattoos. It also works on darker skin tones, which many other lasers should not be used on. The PicoSure® gives people more options for tattoo removal, even removing tattoos that other lasers tried and failed to get rid of.

What is Getting Laser Tattoo Removal Like?

Most laser tattoo removal patients report feeling a “warm” sensation, which is caused by the rapid pulses of laser energy. This laser energy does not target the skin but may result in some redness for a few hours after treatment. Unlike other lasers, the PicoSure® does not cause burns, blisters, or skin trauma, and it removes tattoos faster and more completely than different types of lasers because it can target a wide variety of pigment colors. Efficiency in targeting ink particles means fewer treatment sessions and decreased costs for you.

What Are the Benefits of Laser Tattoo Removal?

Using state-of-the-art “pico-second” technology, today’s laser tattoo removal can remove tattoos of all colors – and on all skin types with fewer treatments and more complete clearance than ever before. Our PicoSure tattoo removal involves much less pain and minimal chance for scarring compared to other laser technology, and provides a “clean slate” to the estimated 10-20% who regret their tattoo for various reasons.

Many patients describe feeling a huge sigh of relief after having their tattoo removed after living, possibly years, with regret and frustration.  Overall, this procedure has an exceptionally high “patient satisfaction” rating and can be life-changing for some.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The number of sessions required depends on your tattoo. Some colors fade faster than others, while old tattoos will break down more quickly than newer ones. A large tattoo may require more sessions if it needs to be treated in sections. Costs for a laser tattoo removal treatment Premier Vein and Body can range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the size and colors of the tattoo. Because you need to wait several weeks between sessions, the complete removal of your tattoo may take several months.

Will My Tattoo Be Completely Gone?

Laser tattoo removal cannot always completely erase a tattoo. However, it will make the tattoo much less noticeable and may fade it to the point where others cannot tell you ever had a tattoo. Certain colors do not break down as easily as others, and newer tattoos can take longer to remove because the pigments have recently been placed and sit deeper in the skin. The physical location of the tattoo also affects how deep the tattoo pigments sit beneath the skin.

Is There Any Downtime After Laser Tattoo Removal?

Unlike some other lasers, the PicoSure® does not cause skin damage or blistering. You only need to moisturize your skin daily and keep it away from sun exposure between sessions and for several weeks afterward. Your skin will be more susceptible to sun damage while healing.
