What is the Difference Between Botox and Xeomin?

If you’d like to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without surgery, Botox and Xeomin are two options at your disposal. While Botox has been around since 2002, Xeomin is fairly new. Both treatments are approved by the FDA and formulated to weaken or relax dynamic wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.

They do this by blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscle. Both treatments come with virtually no downtime so you can resume work and your daily activities right away. Although Botox and Xeomin can both help you look fresh and youthful, there are a few differences between the two treatments that you should understand.

How Xeomin Differs From Botox

One of the most significant differences between Xeomin and Botox is the fact that Xeomin is a “naked” neurotoxin. This means that there is only one ingredient, botulinum toxin A. Botox, however, is formulated with more proteins around the botulinum.

Since Xeomin only contains one ingredient, it’s less likely to prompt antibodies to develop and resist the treatment. Some of our patients even report that they are able to go longer between appointments after switching over to XEOMIN!

Good Candidates for Botox and Xeomin

If you have moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles, you may be a good candidate for Botox and Xeomin. These treatments can help smooth out signs of aging without needles, anesthesia, and extensive downtime. Best of all, they can leave you with instant results that last for several months.

You should avoid these treatments if you’re under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding, or have facial lines that exist when your face is completely relaxed. In addition, it’s a good idea to forgo this treatment if you’re living with a neuromuscular condition, illness, or infection.

Which Treatment Is Right For Me?

There is no hard answer to this question as everyone has a unique situation. If you’ve used Botox in the past and are pleased with the results, you can continue with it. On the other hand, if you’re a former Botox user and haven’t responded well to it or would like to try something different, Xeomin is certainly worth considering. During a consultation, we’ll inform you of which treatment is right for you.
