September is Acne Awareness Month: Learn How to Beat Breakouts with Tixel®

Whether you struggle with occasional breakouts or ongoing severe problems, acne can affect your life in many ways. Far from being just a common teenage problem, acne affects people of all ages and can leave lasting marks and changes to your skin. This September, take control of your breakouts with Tixel®, the powerful acne-fighting treatment that helps your skin stay smooth and clear.

What Causes Acne?

Your sebaceous glands, the culprits behind your acne breakouts, are small structures located within your skin that make an oil called sebum. Your skin needs sebum to stay flexible and protected, but too much can accumulate in your pores. The accumulated sebum can become home to bacteria, causing inflammation and swelling.

While almost everyone experiences an occasional pimple, factors such as genetics and hormonal changes can affect how often and how severely you break out. While some people are prone to noninflammatory acne, like blackheads and whiteheads, others are affected by inflamed, uncomfortable pimples.

September is Acne Awareness Month: Learn How to Beat Breakouts with Tixel®

What is Tixel® Acne Treatment?

The key to lasting acne control is to target the source of the problem. Along with regular cleansing with a product appropriate for your skin, the most effective way to stop oil from building up on your skin and in your pores is to decrease oil production. At Premier Vein & Body, we recommend Tixel® to control excess oil without the side effects of medications or constantly applying topical products.

Tixel® controls oil by targeting the sebaceous glands, causing them to decrease their activity. With oil production under control, your pores remain clear, and bacteria have no place to call home. As a result, it treats even deep, painful cystic acne, eliminating the source of acne scars.

People who have not seen results with topical treatments or medications can still achieve breakout control with Tixel®. It works differently than any other acne treatment method while offering the additional benefits of smoothing uneven texture and hyperpigmentation caused by past breakouts.

How Does Tixel Work for Acne Breakouts?

Treating acne effectively means targeting your sebaceous gland activity. Tixel® uses skin-safe heat energy in the form of Thermal-Mechanical Action® to control overproducing oil glands. It uses a grid of tiny titanium pyramids that make contact with your skin for a fraction of a second, transferring heat that damages the sebaceous glands and makes them less active.

Tixel® also triggers new collagen production in your skin. This effect can help smooth acne scars from past breakouts. It also tightens your pores, helping to prevent them from becoming blocked. People who have Tixel® as an acne treatment often notice significant overall improvements in their skin’s appearance and tone.

What Results Will I See With Tixel® Acne Treatment?

The number of Tixel® treatments you need to see your best results depends on several factors, including the type and severity of your acne. While many people experience improvements after a single treatment, most will need three sessions to achieve maximum acne control. If you are also treating concerns like acne scars, you may need more sessions to address them.

Many people will notice a decrease in the frequency and severity of their breakouts within weeks of their first Tixel® treatment. We recommend one to two maintenance sessions a year to keep your oil production under control. We can work with you to develop a schedule that works best for you. Regular Tixel® treatments have the added benefit of fighting signs of aging and giving your skin a healthy glow.

Is There Any Downtime After Tixel® Acne Treatment?

Because the intensity of Tixel® is customizable, people experience different effects after treatment. While most people generally require no downtime, you may experience redness, minor swelling, and sensitivity that can last up to a few days. More intensive treatments can result in more redness and minor peeling, so that some people may take a day or two off from social activities. We will discuss what you can expect and recommend products to use after Tixel® sessions.

Am I a Candidate for Tixel® to Treat Acne Breakouts?

Because it uses thermal energy instead of light, Tixel® is safe for all skin tones. You may be a good candidate for this treatment if:

  • You have mild to severe acne
  • You have oily skin and enlarged pores
  • You want to achieve lasting results
  • You want a treatment with additional benefits along with acne control
  • You are a healthy adult with realistic expectations

Tixel® is not recommended if you have a skin infection or active skin condition in the treatment area. You may not be a good candidate if you have certain medical conditions. We recommend a visit so we can assess your unique needs.
