How Often Should I Get Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Aging, sun damage, and exposure to the elements can cause your skin to lose its youthful firmness and resilience. Laser skin resurfacing restores younger-looking skin by triggering your body’s natural healing responses. Enhancing levels of vital collagen and elastin in the skin, this treatment gives you skin that looks brighter, smoother, and healthier. Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz offers a range of skin resurfacing options to suit any skin type and concern.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

As we age, various factors conspire to weaken the skin by reducing collagen and elastin levels. Collagen is a key structural protein used throughout the body. It forms the skin’s support structure and gives it firmness. Elastin gives skin its youthful bounce and resilience. Laser skin resurfacing rejuvenates the skin by using energy to trigger cells in the dermis to produce more collagen and elastin.

Lasers and other treatments used for skin resurfacing may be ablative, meaning they remove surface layers of skin, or non-ablative, meaning that they work without penetrating the skin. Ablative resurfacing typically requires more downtime but provides more intensive results. The type you need depends on the skin concerns you want to treat and how much downtime you can take.

How Often Should I Get Laser Skin Resurfacing?

How often you should get laser skin resurfacing depends on the type of treatment and your skin’s response. Some high-intensity ablative types may only require one treatment, but in many cases, you will benefit from at least two or three. How often you get treatment depends on the healing time your skin needs between them. Your laser aesthetician will often recommend a series of treatments spaced a few weeks to months apart, followed by occasional maintenance treatments. Our goal is to space your treatment sessions in a way that works with your busy schedule.

What Can Laser Skin Resurfacing Treat?

Laser skin resurfacing is a powerful way to restore the skin’s surface and build collagen levels. Different types of resurfacing work for different concerns. In general, laser skin resurfacing can treat:

  • Dullness
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven texture
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Melasma
  • Acne scars
  • Rosacea
  • Enlarged pores

Premier Vein & Body offers several types of laser skin resurfacing, allowing us to match you with the one that will help you achieve your desired results.

What Types of Laser Skin Resurfacing are Available?

MicroLaserPeel®

This treatment makes an excellent option for those willing to tolerate several days of downtime. MicroLaserPeel® is an ablative laser that removes a thin surface layer of dull, lifeless skin. Your skin responds by bringing healthy new cells to the surface and increasing collagen production. This customizable treatment lets your laser aesthetician choose the depth of the ablation. As this is the deepest skin resurfacing treatment we offer, only a single treatment is required for great cosmetic results.

Tixel Skin Resurfacing

Using thermo-mechanical energy instead of laser energy, Tixel delivers skin-resurfacing results with little to no downtime and minimal discomfort. The deeper, ablative level results from a series of three treatments are comparable to those delivered by single MicroLaserPeels and CO2 laser treatments, but without the days/week of downtime.  Because this treatment doesn’t use laser energy, requiring the use of eye goggles, it provides the best non-surgical eye lift to be used on the eyelid and/or tear trough without risk of damage to the skin.  ALL skin types can take advantage of Tixel’s outstanding results.

Opus Plasma™

This innovative form of skin resurfacing uses a combination of radiofrequency and plasma energy to trigger the collagen production and restore youthful skin. A series of Opus Plasma™ treatments can produce results similar to a CO2 laser but with less downtime. Its targeted thermal micro-damage triggers intensive skin renewal. While your skin can feel a bit “spicy” after treatment, this laser-alternative skin resurfacing treatment is very customizable for a gentler or deeper treatment.

PicoSure® Focus

PicoSure® Focus is a truly gentle, non-ablative skin resurfacing treatment that uses picosecond pulses of energy that travel painlessly into the deeper layers of skin, where they stimulate collagen-producing cells and increase their activity. Because it does not use laser energy, it causes no injury to the skin’s surface and can be used on ALL skin types with zero risk of burns.  This “lunchtime procedure” has no downtime – just a bit of redness – and requires a series of three treatments for optimal results and a “PicoSure Glow”.

When Will I See My Results From Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Results from laser skin resurfacing begin to develop as the skin heal after treatment. Some results become visible almost immediately, while others take time to develop. You will notice that your skin looks healthier and more youthful as it heals. New collagen takes time to develop, meaning it may take several weeks for improvements in texture and firmness to appear.

What is Recovery Like After Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Your expected downtime depends on the type of skin resurfacing you receive. A non-ablative treatment like PicoSure® Focus may have no downtime at all, while an ablative treatment such as a MicroLaserPeel will involve several days of downtime, redness, and peeling. Your practitioner will advise you on how to care for your skin during this time.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Almost anyone makes a good candidate for some form of laser skin resurfacing. Not all treatments are suitable for all skin types and tones, but our complete range of treatment options lets us find one that will work for you.  You should not have laser skin resurfacing if you have an active skin infection or acne breakout in the treatment area.
