How Does PicoSure Laser Tattoo Removal Work
Many of the standard lasers on the market are either not powerful enough to break up the ink into tiny enough particles to achieve desired results, or other lasers use too much heat, which ends up damaging the surrounding skin. The PicoSure laser does not use any heat – it uses PressureWave technology and ultra-short “picosecond” bursts of energy, so not only is the ink of the tattoo broken down into tiny particles much smaller than other lasers are capable of, the skin also endures less trauma because of the technology’s picosecond (very short) pulse. Using less heat and only targeting the ink means less skin damage.
The less damaging technology of PicoSure laser tattoo removal provides better results in fewer treatments, without side effects. The newer Pico devices offer better clearance on tattoos of all colors and sizes, in all skin tones, and require fewer sessions with faster, more comfortable treatments. However, there still remains a huge variation depending on the size, color, body location and depth/intensity/type of ink used. Since every tattoo is different, we offer complimentary tattoo removal consultations. Once our laser aesthetician examines the size and colors of your tattoo, she can give you a more reasonable idea of how many treatments may be required for total clearance. Patients should typically expect to see 20-25% tattoo removal after each laser treatment, although tattoo size, colors and type/density of ink are contributing factors. For optimal results, each treatment should be spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
