The “Weekend Peel”

Our Sciton® MicroLaserPeel® may be the perfect solution to resurface your skin. It is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other skin irregularities. It offers patients many advantages over other ablative resurfacing procedures that often involve significant discomfort and downtime.*

What is a MicroLaserPeel®?

MicroLaserPeel® is a facial rejuvenation treatment that removes a thin layer of damaged skin to improve texture and provide a more youthful appearance, reducing the appearance of signs of aging to help your skin look younger and firmer. It provides superior results because it can be administered with great precision of depth. MicroLaserPeel® helps to treat the following conditions:

Am I a Candidate?

Patients looking to resurface and rejuvenate their facial skin may be interested in the MicroLaserPeel®.  Unlike the very aggressive, old-time, CO2 ablative lasers that require up to 2 weeks of downtime, the MicroLaserPeel’s flexibility offers our patients a very shallow “Weekend Peel”, with only 2-3 days of downtime. During your consultation, we will evaluate the state of your skin to help determine if the MicroLaserPeel® is suitable for producing your desired results.

How Does MicroLaserPeel® Work?

Within the area of cosmetic laser rejuvenation, there are two types of lasers – ablative and non-ablative. Both can treat skin pigmentation issues and stimulate collagen re-growth in the skin. Ablative lasers, such as the MicroLaserPeel, have a greater capability for targeting the surface of the skin, all the way down to the sub-dermis, whereas non-ablative lasers can only target the epidermis without addressing the dermis and deeper layers of tissue. Ablative lasers are able to produce longer-lasting, deeper effects, but most, including the popular CO2 laser, can involve significant downtime (up to 2 weeks) for the skin to completely heal.

During the MicroLaserPeel® session, the laser’s beam is scanned over a treatment area to remove a very thin layer of skin, which eliminates the damaged skin cells that can give skin a tired, aged look. As the skin heals, new, fresh, healthy cells grow and resurface the treated area.  The depth of the treatment will determine the final cosmetic results. Unlike other laser peels, such as the popular CO2 peel, the depth of the laser treatment is flexible, allowing us to offer patients both shallower peels with less downtime, as well as deeper peels with more aggressive results, but also greater downtime.  Along with providing patients with shorter recovery time, the MicroLaserPeel® also involves very little pain, especially when used on one of the shallower settings, when patients tolerate the treatment with minimal or no anesthetic at all.  A topical local anesthetic is typically used with a deeper peel.

What Results Will I See?*

The results include healthier-looking skin, often with a reduction in wrinkles and more even color and tone.  Many patients report to us that their skin went from looking “tired” to “vibrant”.  This is a popular treatment for the face and neck.  Most patients will obtain good results with just one treatment, but more significant improvement can be seen with a series of two or three, although the needs vary patient to patient and are often dependent on how much or little downtime the patient deems acceptable.

Is There Any Downtime?*

After the laser skin resurfacing procedure, patients notice that their skin has a “frosty” appearance”, which is the dehydrated skin that will peel away within a few days post-treatment.  You may experience some redness, resembling a sunburn, and mild swelling for a few days. Symptoms can be controlled with cold compresses and a special prescription-strength skincare regimen for the first several days. While most patients can return to work and their normal day-to-day after 2-3 days, slight redness may persist for several weeks.*

For patients who are looking for a non-ablative “lunchtime” procedure, our Forever Young BBL Photo Rejuvenation helps reduce redness and our PicoSure Focus skin rejuvenation can be used to reverse sun damage, melasma, acne scarring, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation without any downtime, though multiple treatments are typically required for desired results.
