Our Kansas City Vein Center

Outpatient Vein Care Replaces Hospital-Based Surgery

Already possessing over 10 years of experience in vascular and general surgery and a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania, Dr. Craig Schwartz relocated to Kansas City in 2003 with his wife, Peggy – a Kansas City native.  They proceeded to open one of the Midwest’s first dedicated vein treatment centers offering all types of treatment for varicose veins and associated vein disease in an ambulatory setting, which was originally called Vein Centers for Excellence of Kansas City.

While most vein treatment at this time involved hospital-based vein stripping procedures, which involved significant pain, weeks to months of downtime and a high recurrence rate, a group of vascular surgeons across the country were embracing new, out-patient, minimally invasive treatment modalities that allowed for the resolution of venous hypertension and varicosities in the superficial veins of the lower extremities, while providing safer and better outcomes, with significantly less patient inconvenience and pain than in the past. These new venous ablation procedures allowed vascular surgeons to diagnose and treat vein patients right in the comfort and convenience of their own offices, using just local anesthesia.

Kansas City Vein Treatment

Dr. Schwartz quickly realized the patient benefit of this type of treatment and after training with Dr. Ronald Bush – one of the original leaders in the use of minimally-invasive endovascular laser ablations to treat venous insufficiency – he opened his own vein practice in Leawood, KS, providing the Kansas City area with its first dedicated vein treatment center directed by a vascular surgeon. These procedures are now considered the industry standard in the treatment of vein disease, with years of documented results.

Expanding the Use of Laser Energy into Cosmetic Medicine

A highly skilled vascular and general surgeon and phlebologist, with years of experience using laser surgery to treat vein disease, Dr. Schwartz identified the need to expand into offering his patients additional cosmetic procedures, such as outpatient liposuction, that harnessed the power and benefits of laser energy and tumescent anesthesia.  These new minimally-invasive liposuction procedures provided exceptional results with much less trauma and downtime than previously available with traditional liposuction procedures performed in the hospital or surgery center settings. Training with and attending preceptorships with notable aesthetic surgeons, such as Dr. Jeffrey Klein, the original inventor and developer of Tumescent Liposuction, and Dr. Robert Weiss, Dr. Roger Hogue and Dr. David Broadway, Dr. Schwartz developed a reputation for using his precise surgical skills along with advanced laser tools and tumescent anesthesia to remove unwanted fat, tighten the skin and improve cellulite right in the comfort and convenience of his office.

In 2014, Dr. Schwartz changed his practice name to Premier Vein & Body by Schwartz to better represent the comprehensive range of minimally invasive and non-invasive procedures he provided for both vein treatment and body contouring.  Throughout the years, Dr. Schwartz has never relied on the status quo to treat his patients and has continuously sought out the newest, most effective methods, devices and technologies to bring about natural-looking, long-lasting results for body contouring and facial rejuvenation, without the weeks of downtime and discomfort associated with traditional surgical options.

Dr. Schwartz continues to dedicate much of his career to the outpatient treatment of vein disease, even as he continues to expand his practice into other areas of cosmetic laser-based medicine, including fat transfer, facial rejuvenation, skin tightening, underarm sweat treatment, laser tattoo removal and more.  Dr. Schwartz crafts an inventive, customized approach for each of his patients, producing significant results where other surgeons cannot, without the need for major invasive surgery, general or regional anesthesia, or long recovery periods.
