Hyperpigmentation

Does Hyperpigmentation Make You Want to Hide?

While hyperpigmentation affects approximately 5 million Americans, it is treatable even though many just choose to live with it.

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation, also called melasma, presents as darker patches of skin due to the overproduction of melanin. It has many causes, such as hormonal changes with the use of birth control or during pregnancy. Outside factors such as sun exposure, skin injury, or even acne can also contribute.

What Treatments Target Hyperpigmentation?

Laser Skin Rejuvenation reduces hyperpigmentation through specific wavelengths of energy that target melanin. We use the PicoSure laser, which employs pressure energy rather than laser energy to initiate cellular regeneration to lighten the unwanted pigment. Traditional laser facials that use laser energy can actually make melasma worse instead of better.

The Carbon Laser Peel is a 2-step process beginning with a natural carbon cream mask application. This draws oils, impurities, and dead skin cells to the surface. Once the mask is dry, an ND:Yag laser uses 1064nm energy, which is drawn to darker pigment, to peel the carbon mask away, along with the impurities and melanin. It stimulates new cell growth and collagen production for firmer, more evenly toned skin.

The MIRAPeel is a 3-in-1 treatment that begins with ablation of the outer layer of skin that simultaneously infuses a serum specific to your aesthetic concerns into your skin. The next step further infuses the serum through wet microneedling, commonly known as hydrafacial. The last step uses LED lights to soothe and promote collagen production.

Photorejuvenation targets and breaks up melanin or hemoglobin through BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy. Short, specific light pulses are used to focus on different pigments, so only the affected cells are treated, leaving surrounding tissues unaffected.
